Today, President Donald Trump will sign the official proclamation of National Nurses Day, which marks the beginning of National Nurses Week. The week culminates on the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. As the nation has faced the epidemic, the president routinely praised the efforts and sacrifices of the nation’s nurses. In March, he told nurses visiting the White House that he, Vice President Mike Pence, and the American people “express our gratitude for those on the frontlines in our war against the global pandemic.”

As part of today’s proclamation, the president will reaffirm the federal government’s commitment to supporting nurses who are putting themselves at risk every day to help combat the outbreak and in order to provide care and save the lives of fellow Americans.

In the afternoon, the president and vice president will meet with Iowa’s Governor Kim Reynolds for a briefing on Iowa’s COVID-19 response. In addition to receiving updates on the state’s testing methods and contact tracing, the president will also look to see how the federal government and Iowa can work together to counter outbreaks at the state’s meatpacking plants.

AS THE LORD LEADS, PRAY WITH US…

For wisdom for the president as he leads the federal response to the COVID-19 outbreak.
For guidance as the president works to provide for the needs of America’s nurses as they work on the frontlines.
For God to be at work in the meeting between President Trump, Vice President Pence, and Governor Reynolds.
