There are no permanent residents and no actual land — just ice — at the North Pole, so perhaps it makes sense that there’s no time zone assigned to this unusual place. There isn’t one at the South Pole, either. Technically, all of Earth’s 24 time zones converge at the poles. Instead of using a local time, scientists or tourists visiting the poles usually use whatever time zone is most convenient for them. The closest permanent settlement to the North Pole — about 600 miles away — is Alert on Canada’s Ellesmere Island, which uses the Eastern Time Zone.
