If Trump Is a Narcissist, So Is AOC

  • Narcissistic personality disorder has been thrust into the spotlight due to George Conway, who has taken to Twitter to ridicule those with the disorder in the name of getting revenge on President Trump. Conway alleges that Trump possesses narcissistic qualities not due to obvious outside factors, like being a billionaire and the most powerful man in the world, but rather because of some internal defect.

Mental illnesses affect tens of millions of people living in the US today, and 15% of Americans suffer from personality disorders. Of those, 0.5% to 1% have narcissistic personality disorder. Individuals who have NPD believe they have special abilities and deserve special treatment because they are better than those around them.

NPD was first introduced into the American Psychological Association’s DSM in 1980, and it’s characterized by symptoms such as delusions of grandeur and a lack of empathy for others. This will sound familiar to Conservatives, who may recognize this pattern as one that is common in Democrats.

How many sufferers of NPD actually are Democrats?

According to research, narcissists are divided equally across the board, with half leaning toward the Left and half toward the Right.

The difference is not in the level of narcissism, but rather in how it manifests. On the Left and Right, those who are narcissistic tend to be more vocal about their politics. Conservatives with NPD are more likely to exhibit signs of entitlement, however, while Liberals are more likely to seek validation through exhibition.

In other words, they will make a big deal out of their political beliefs because they receive narcissistic supply from the attention they receive.

To test Conway’s theory about the President’s mental health, let’s see how some of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s recent quotes stand up to DSM-5 scrutiny.

AOC’s NPD According to the DSM-5

When it comes to AOC and the criteria for a diagnosis of narcissistic personality disorder according to the DSM-5, it’s a match!

    1. Has a grandiose sense of self-importance.

“Like, I just introduced the Green New Deal two weeks ago, and it’s creating all of this conversation. Why? Because no one else has even tried.”

Sure, no one else has ever tried to do anything about the environment, AOC. You’re the only one. You’re single-handedly saving the world.

    2. Is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty or ideal love.

“In case you’re curious about where the sudden flood of bogus ethics ‘complaints’ & fake ‘scandals’ are coming from, GOP troll groups are filing a ton of random claims. There’s already a dark-money operation aimed at me just 2 months into my job.”

So it’s GOP “troll groups” who are filing ethics complaints because it’s not possible that there are real concerns about her idiocy. She’s so powerful that any complaints about her must be part of a “dark-money operation.”

    3. Believes that he or she is “special” and unique and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high-status people or institutions.

“Meanwhile as folks wring their hands over a nonbinding #GreenNewDeal, I spent this AM touring LaGuardia airport.”

Worrying about terrible, wasteful policies is for commoners. Ocasio-Cortez is too important for that. She’s got airports to tour and other people’s money to spend.

    4. Requires excessive admiration.

“The reason people know more is bc Fox News has turned into “AOC TMZ” (no offense to TMZ), so awareness is growing w/ GOPers.”

People don’t more because they have minds of their own that they sometimes use to form opinions after educating themselves. It’s because TV is all about her, a person who can’t even spell out the word “because” in its entirety.

    5. Has a sense of entitlement.

“Some people are like, ‘Oh, it’s unrealistic, oh, it’s vague, oh, it doesn’t address this minute little thing, and I’m like, you try! You do it! ‘Cause you’re not! ‘Cause you’re not! So, until you do it, I’m the boss! How about that?”

AOC is one of 435 people in Congress and she’s only been on the job for a few months, but she’s the boss.

    6. Is interpersonally exploitative.

“Anything is possible: today was the day a group of dedicated, everyday New Yorkers & their neighbors defeated Amazon’s corporate greed, its worker exploitation, and the power of the richest man in the world.”

Ocasio-Cortez was all-too-happy to throw all those people who needed those Amazon jobs and the money they would have invested in the community under the bus, all to make herself look like some kind of “corporate greed warrior.”

    7. Lacks empathy, is unwilling to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of others.

“We’re in charge, you’re just shouting from the cheap seats.”

Because she’s in Congress, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez certainly is occupying an expensive seat. One the rest of us have to pay for. Nice of her to remind us we can’t afford it.

    8. Is often envious of others or believes that others are envious of him or her.

“I guess college admissions isn’t that different from elections, where lots of money can buy your spot too.”

So other politicians bought their “spots,” but not her. They wish they could win an election fair and square like Ocasio-Cortez, right?

    9. Shows arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitudes.

“GOP challenged me in committee, betting on an assumption that I didn’t know what I was talking about. Spoiler: I knew what I was talking about. Keep believing the patronizing trope about ‘not smart, but her heart’s in the right place.’”

According to AOC, any questioning of her is a challenge that must be responded to with arrogance.

Professor Allen Frances, who wrote the definition of narcissistic personality disorder, says Trump does not suffer from any distress due to his entitled behavior and thus does not meet the diagnostic criteria for NPD. In fact, he said calling the President mentally ill is an “insult to people who have genuine conditions.”

President Trump doesn’t have NPD any more than AOC does. Shame on you, Democrats. Let’s leave the mentally ill out of this. The only condition you need to worry about is Trump Derangement Syndrome. It’s real, and AOC actually does have it.
