(WCVB) “Fall River Mayor Jasiel Correia was arrested early Friday morning at his home in the city.
Correia, 27, was charged in a superseding indictment with bribery; extortion conspiracy; extortion and aiding and abetting; wire fraud; and filing false tax returns.
He is accused of conspiring to extort hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes from marijuana companies.
United States Attorney Andrew E. Lelling said “He [Correia] has essentially run that town as a pay to play institution.””
Some More Speculation, Analysis & Opinion of E. Patriot – Also taken into custody was Correia’s former chief of staff, Genoveva Andrade, on charges of extortion and bribery.
Three other persons Antonio Costa, 51, of Fall River; Hildegar Camara, 58, of Fall River; and David Hebert, 54, of Westport, were also arrested in connection with Correia’s scheme.
They were charged with extortion conspiracy, extortion, and false statements in connection with subsequent false statements to federal agents about their roles in assisting Correia obtain money and property from marijuana vendors.
Costa, Camara, and Hebert I, and others, expected to become witnesses against Correia in exchange for reduced sentences, for me this is an indication that the FBI is in possession of significantly serious evidence against all five persons that were arrested.
Hildegard Camara, is the sister of City Councilor Joseph Camara who ran against Correia in a March recall election with the intention of splitting the anti-Correia vote. That enabled Correia to win without garnering a majority of the votes.
Essentially,it appears that thanks to Joseph Camara, Correia was ousted as mayor by a majority of voters in the recall election while being re-elected at the same time with a plurality of the vote. Only in a world run by Democrats…

At the core of Correia’s most recent arrest is aMassachusetts law that governs obtaining a license required to operate a marijuana business, whether medical or recreational.
The law requires a letter of non-opposition from the head of the local government where the business intends to operate.
According to the 42-page indictment, Correia has issued at least 14 such letters in total, including two for his girlfriend’s brother.
The FBI is alleging that Correia used his office to extort hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribe payments from at least four marijuana vendors in exchange for his sign-off.
Correia was also charged with forcing Genoveva Andrade to kick back half of her annual salary to him.
This superseding indictment comes after he was charged last year with nine counts of wire fraud and four counts of tax fraud for defrauding investors of $363,690 to use the money to fund his lavish lifestyle.
Correia is currently running for re-election on the Democratic side of the ticket, and, if Democrat voters vote as I expect them to, Correia will be governing from a jail cell.
Democrat, Marion Barry was caught on camera in a hotel room smoking crack cocaine with a prostitute, and was still re-elected mayor of Washington D.C.
More shocking is the backing for former Vice President Joe Biden who has been accused of selling out U.S. national security interests in exchange for lucrative business deals for his son.
Biden has also been accused of extorting the Ukrainian President over a $1 billion loan guarantee. Many polls show Biden as the current frontrunner for the Democratic presidential nomination.
Biden should not be confused with the last Democratic presidential nominee, Hillary Clinton who we believe used her perch as secretary of state – fourth in line to the presidency – to run a global pay-for-play scheme that netted her ‘Clinton Foundation” billions of dollars.
It sure seems that Liberals never learn the lessons of history.
Editor’s Note: Mayor Correia, and yes, even Hillary Clinton, just like every single other American citizen, are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
