Trump Announces Strikes on Syria Following Chemical Weapons Attack
Ryan Pickrell / @rwp2011 / April 13, 2018 DAILY SIGNAL Explosions could be heard in the Syrian capital of Damascus just moments after President Donald Trump announced precision strikes on “targets associated with the chemical weapons capabilities” of the Syrian regime. Coalition forces hit Syria hard Friday evening following Trump’s decision to punish the Syrian regime for its alleged involvement in a chemical weapons attack on civilians in Douma, Eastern Ghoutta, last weekend. The attack, which killed dozens, is believed to have involved a combination of chlorine gas and a nerve agent. Home to a Syrian scientific research facility, the Barzeh district in Damascus was hit in coalition strikes, according to Reuters, citing witnesses. The attack is believed to have also devastated a number of Syrian military bases in the capital. Other reported targets include those in Homs, Mezzah military airport, scientific research facilities in Jamraya, and defense labs in Aleppo.
