White House DELETES Bogus Social Security Claim After Being Fact-Checked By Twitter

One of the newest left-wing talking points just ahead of the 2022 midterms is that Republicans want to get rid of Social Security. And that Democrats are responsible for increasing Social Security checks.

On Tuesday, the White House shared the following on Twitter: “Seniors are getting the biggest increase in their Social Security checks in 10 years through President Biden’s leadership.”

That claim was quickly fact-checked by Twitter.

“Readers added context they thought people might want to know” was displayed underneath the tweet from the White House. Which is not an uncommon added tidbit from the tech giant as it aims to crack down on misinformation.

Underneath that header read the following:

Seniors will receive a large Social Security benefit increase due to the annual cost of living adjustment, which is base on the inflation rate. President Nixon in 1972 signed into law automatic benefit adjustments tied to the Consumer Price Index. Pub. L. No. 92-336 (1972).

More on the above here.

What’s glorious about this massive fact-check is that left wing outlets, let alone the White House, are rarely the ones being called out for spreading misinformation. Especially in the realm of Democrat propaganda.

Even Elon Musk, Twitter’s newest CEO, chimed in on the fact-check.

Apparently the White House was so embarrassed by this whole saga, they deleted the original tweet.

From Just The News:

The White House’s original tweet had declared that American seniors were “getting the biggest increase in their Social Security checks in 10 years through President Biden’s leadership.” The federal government last month announced that Social Security checks would get nearly 9% boost this year.

That spike, however, came not from Biden administration policy but via an annual cost-of-living assessment, which is tied to the inflation rate. The COLA raise has been federal policy for about 50 years since President Richard Nixon signed it into office.

Twitter subsequently appended the White House’s tweet with reader-supplied “context” regarding the mater; the White House deleted the tweet shortly thereafter.

Do we expect the left to call for the suspension or deletion of the White House Twitter account for spreading false narratives and then getting caught? Of course not. That’s not how this works.

Instead, we are only supposed to forget and move on. What other bogus claims from the White House and left are going to be fact-checked for next?
