Local carpenters are protesting developments going up in Horry County because they claim builders are mainly hiring illegal immigrants.

Three men stood outside of The Farm at Timberlake Saturday with signs that said 'Support American carpenters, don't buy houses built by illegals.'

A protester told ABC 15 news he knows workers hired by building company D.R. Horton are not in the U.S. legally because he worked alongside them.

"The growth in Horry County, I believe the natives should be able to earn something. We're the ones with the higher taxes, the higher cost of the living, the inflated car rate insurance, and I believe that the natives should be able to enjoy some of the benefits of this growth and not just the illegals," said Terry Brady, a local carpenter.

We called and emailed D.R. Horton for comment on the claim they hire illegal immigrants.

Their corporate office is closed on the weekends so we are still waiting on a response.
