Today, President Donald Trump is meeting with Vice Premier of the People’s Republic of China Liu He as part of the 13th round of trade talks taking place in Washington, D.C. this week. The two nations will continue to work towards a new deal before additional tariffs take effect next week. In addition, the president and vice premier will likely discuss the ongoing democracy protests in Hong Kong and China’s recent human rights violations in China's Xinjiang province.

On Thursday, U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer met with Chinese officials for several hours. President Trump added, “I will say I think it's going really well. We had a very, very good negotiation with China.” U.S. officials are hoping to reach a limited deal by the end of day Friday and setup continuing negotiations in the future.
In the evening, the president will travel to Lake Charles, Louisiana, to take part in campaign events. The main event will be at the Sudduth Coliseum at Lake Charles Civic Center.
