Words and Perfection
Have we really stopped to consider just how powerful our words are? How many have said "I'm not perfect"??? I know I have but should we say it? No we shouldn't. By our words we are justified, by our words we are condemned. Are our words hindering us from being perfected?
We need to bridle our tongues and heed what we say. Life and death can be spoken from our mouths.
[Job 15:5 KJV] 5 For thy mouth uttereth thine iniquity, and thou choosest the tongue of the crafty.
Did you catch what that verse says "you chose" what to say. YOU allow your mouth to say things that shouldn't be spoken. There is wisdom in the old saying “bite your tongue”. When you bite your tongue, you can’t speak. Sometimes things are left best unspoken.
[Job 27:4 KJV] 4 My lips shall not speak wickedness, nor my tongue utter deceit. [Job 29:10 KJV] 10 The nobles held their peace, and their tongue cleaved to the roof of their mouth. [Job 6:24 KJV] 24 Teach me, and I will hold my tongue: and cause me to understand wherein I have erred.
[Psa 34:13 KJV] 13 Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.
People say (speak doubt) you can't be perfect, what does the Bible say??? [Mat 5:48 KJV] 48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
Let's take Job for instance -- he was just an ordinary man yet God counted him as perfect. Job reached this goal without even having the indwelling of the Holy Ghost (for the Holy Ghost had not yet fully come in Job's time). God perceived Job as being so perfect that he even used him as an example to Satan.
[Job 1:1, 8 KJV] 1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name [was] Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil. ... 8 And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that [there is] none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?
This world we live in is not any easy place to live and there are always blocks of stumbling in our path, but we must chose to overcome these obstacles.
[Phl 3:12, 14-15 KJV] 12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. ... 14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. 15 Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.
We need to retrain our mouths to only allow good things to come forth. Stop speaking doubt and unbelief. Chose our words carefully. A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold. Use that mouth of yours to spread the goodness of God.
How important is controlling our speech? It’s pretty important to God. [Mat 12:36 KJV] 36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
The formula for perfection then is controlling your tongue.
[Jas 3:2 KJV] 2 For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same [is] a perfect man, [and] able also to bridle the whole body. [Heb 6:1 KJV] 1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
